 - LET'S GOLF WEST VIRGINIA
-
- West Virginia is calling you to a new standard of golf vacation. Forget every golf trip you’ve ever taken with your friends and take a look at all the wonderful golf courses in the Mountain State; courses located among rolling hills, along raging rivers and in peaceful valleys. Many of the layouts in this scenic state were designed by the game’s best… Palmer, Nicklaus, Cobb, Jones, and Player to name a few. Plus there’s a rich golfing history here that can actually be experienced. The nine holes at Oakhurst Links in White Sulphur Springs were built in the 1880’s, becoming this country’s first golf course. The course was restored by architect Bob Cupp in the early 1990’s and it’s open for play to all using replica 1800’s hickory clubs and balls. As authentic as that round of golf is, the state’s many other courses and resorts offer their own unique experiences. Some of them are listed below.
West Virginia does indeed beckon the golf traveler to its mountain heights and valley lows to experience a wide variety of award-winning course layouts. Moderate springs, scenic falls, and much cooler summer temperatures than the rest of the southeast come together with the Mountain State’s convenient location just a days drive from half of the country’s population to provide many opportunities for golf groups to answer the call.
